The news story is a bit misleading. You can have wall mounted xray units that use low xray exposures just as the Nomad does. It’s simply a matter of adjusting the exposure controls. The reporter should’ve said, “The use of digital film sensors has allowed for the reduction of xray exposure times.”

But the unit still exposes 20% less radiation than traditional devices, AND the operator doesn’t have to leave the room to expose because of the backscatter protection it provides. zing!

This video is misleading: the Nomad is not responsible for being able to manipulate the image or for the image being digital at all. The Nomad is simply an xray tube that exposes radiographs. It’s the digital sensor or hard film that is exposed that will determine the image. You cannot produce a digital image without digital software and sensor. Also, any person exposing xrays with the Nomad must wear a lead apron themselves to protect against radiation exposure, as there will always be scatter.

Most, if not all, accredited radiologic technology schools require college prerequisites. Find programs you are interested in and check out their websites for requirements. Yes it does matter where you go! The people employed in hospitals are registered radiologic technologists, not x-ray technicians. You must go through an accredited program, which you can find here (choose Radiography): https://www.arrt.org/index.html?content=nd/listOfSchools.ndm/listSchools&iframe=yes
